Description D51’s Suicide Prevention Specialist provides and assists in training to ensure staff and students are trained in suicide prevention and intervention.
Services Promoting social connectedness and support, enhancing life skills and resilience, decreasing mental health stigma, and increasing help-seeking among students.
All teachers and staff receive yearly professional training on suicide prevention. Students in grades 3-12 receive resiliency training, which includes education on making safe and healthy choices, coping strategies and making healthy connections. In addition, all students in grades 6 through 12 receive yearly student-centered education on suicide prevention, which includes help-seeking strategies, including how to engage school resources and refer friends for help; as well as learning to recognize the risk factors and warning signs of mental illness and suicide. Service Suicide post-vention support; loss & grief; monthly support group meetings
Description This group offers support to those affected by a suicide loss. Meetings are held monthly on the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00pm-9:00 pm. Meetings are facilitated by a mental health professional and fellow loss survivors. New members can join any time.
The group is affiliated with the American Association of Suicidology, a national organization of mental health professionals and non-professionals who combine efforts toward the study and reduction of suicide Free | No cost to participate
